One weekend - two 200 brevets. Each brevet is one way (point to point route) between Globe and Show Low.
Saturday's brevet is hosted by us - Southern Arizona Randonneurs -and Sunday's brevet is part of the brevet series by the Rocky Mountain Cycling Club. Both brevets are open to all who dare.
This route is typical Arizona: very remote, very picturesque. This is mining country and we're definitely in the mountains. The most dramatic part of the ride is the 10 mile plunge down to the Salt River.
The Game Plan for Two Day Riders: Most riders will want to arrive in Globe on Friday night. (Please make a reservation for yourself at a nearby hotel. I can recommend the Days Inn and Motel 6 but there are a zillion places to stay in Globe.) Saturday morning, we'll leave our cars in Globe, and ride the brevet to Show Low where we'll stay over on Saturday night. (Again, accommodations are on your own. I suggest the hotel at the start which is the Days Inn.) On Sunday, we'll ride the brevet course in reverse back to Gobe and to our cars.
Terrain: Strongly rolling until you get to Salt River Canyon. The road plunges 10 miles down a number of switchbacks to the bottom of the canyon. Then we have to climb 10 miles to get out of it. Over 11,000 feet of climbing in all.

1. Convenience store at SR 60 and SR 73
2. Hon Dah Casino
11,331 feet of climbing.
Minimum/maximum elevation: 3354/7223 feet above sea level

1. Hon Dah Casino
2.
Convenience store at SR 60/SR 73.
8,607 feet of climbing
Minimum/maximum elevation: 3354/7223 feet above sea level.
Riders are expected to do simple repairs such as repair a flat tire.
Lights: Optional. However, if you're still riding after sunset, you need lights as required by law.
From Globe to Show Low on the first day, we'll meet our support guy, Ed, at the bottom of Salt River Canyon, about 37 miles into the ride. He'll have snacks and water and our drop bags. (Note: There are restrooms there, but the store was closed the last time we were there.)
Twenty five miles after Salt River Canyon, there is a convenience store at the corner of SR 60 and SR 73.
The next major opportunity for food and water is 47 miles away at the Hon Dah Casino complex. After the casino there are many services as we travel through Pinetop and Show Low.
Once you get to the Days Inn in Show Low, there are several restaurants within walking distane.
From Show Low to Globe the next day, it's 17 miles to the convenience store at the casino. Then another 47 miles to the convenience store at the corner of SR 60 and SR 73. Our support guy, Ed, will again meet us at the bottom of Salt River Canyon which is 26 miles from the convenience store. From the bottom of Salt River Canyon to Globe is 37 miles with absolutely no services along the way.
I'll provide water and some snacks
